Adding PDFs and documents is an easy way to share specific information on your website, and it gives visitors a convenient way to download that information for personal use and stay informed. Below are a few options for putting this into practice.
When uploading PDFs or documents, it's a good idea to give your files clear, descriptive names before adding them to Frame. Avoiding duplicate or vague filenames makes it much easier to find the right file later — especially when you're managing similar documents year after year. Clear names also make for cleaner, more readable file URLs, which is better for both visitors and search engines.
For example:
WB-812026 — not clear what the document actually is.
Weekly Bulletin — too generic, and confusing if reused every week.
Weekly Bulletin-8-1-2026 — clear, specific, and easy to identify.
When uploading PDFs and documents make sure that they contain basic content and security guidance, including not uploading confidential, internal or restricted documents. This can pose a security risk for your organization.
Document Types and File Size Limitations
The following document types to your website, can be uploaded to Frame.
.pdf (Portable Document Format; Adobe Acrobat)
.doc, .docx (Microsoft Word Document)
.xls, .xlsx (Microsoft Excel Document)
.key (Apple Keynote Presentation)
.odt (OpenDocument Text Document)
With in the Frame platform we do have a limit to the size of each file to 150mb. This includes video, photo and documents. If your file exceeds this limit it will not load and you will need to resave to a smaller file size and add or upload again.
Adding with Paragraph Link
Want to link a PDF right from your text instead of using a full File block? It's easy! Simply highlight the word or phrase (Student Handbook) you'd like to turn into a link, then click the link icon in the text toolbar. From there, select one you've already added to your media library. Either by entering part of the title or copying in the direct URL for the media library. Once it's linked, visitors can click that text anytime to open or download the file — no separate block needed.
Adding with a File Block
If you'd like a PDF or other document to really stand out on the page — think handbook, school lists, posters, special event flyers, or schedules — you can add a File block and choose your document from there. It'll get its own dedicated spot, front and center for visitors to see. File Block
Adding PDF to a Bulletin Page
For churches that want to post their weekly bulletin on the website, we have a simple workflow for that — it involves setting up a dedicated Bulletin page. It's also a great idea to link to this page with a call-to-action on your Welcome Page, so visitors can find it easily. To get started, follow the steps in Create a Bulletin Page
Replacing or Updating an Existing Document
Once you've added a document to your site — whether through a text link or a File block — updating it later is simple. Just upload the new version to your Media Library. You can do this by going to Media > Library > Add New File, or right from the page in Editor by clicking the File block, then selecting Replace from the toolbox, which lets you upload the new file directly.
If you added your document as a link within a paragraph, you'll just need to grab the URL of the new file, then swap it in for the old one — delete the previous link and paste the new one in its place.
