Import a Gravity Form

Learn how to import an existing form—from another site or a backup file—into your site.

Last updated on 12 Mar, 2026

If you have a previously saved form file—perhaps from another site or as a backup—you can easily import it into Gravity Forms. This is especially helpful for reusing ministry forms like prayer requests, event registrations, or school applications.

Steps to Import a Form

Heads up: You’ll need to have already exported your form as a .json file using Gravity Forms. If you haven’t done that yet, check out our guide on exporting forms. Keep in mind—only Gravity Forms .json files can be imported. Files from other form tools won’t work here.

1. Open the WordPress Dashboard

Log into your WordPress admin area.

2. Go to Import/Export Settings

In the left-hand menu, navigate to:
Forms > Import/Export

3. Click on the “Import Forms” Tab

On the Import/Export page, select the Import Forms tab from the left sidebar.

4. Select Your Export File

Click the Select Files button.
Choose the .json file you previously exported using Gravity Forms.

Note: The file must be a valid Gravity Forms export file with a .json extension.

5. (Optional) Import Images

If your form includes image-based options (like the Image Choice field) or uses Conversational Mode, you’ll have the option to import those images into your WordPress media library.

  • To do this, check the box labeled:
“Import images used in this form into your media library”

6. Start the Import

Click the Import button to begin the upload process.
Once complete, your form will be added to the list of forms and ready for customization.
