The Classic block is a WordPress block that embeds the older TinyMCE “Classic Editor” inside the Gutenberg block editor that Frame is build on—so it looks and works like the old editor, but in block form.
Note: On our Frame sites, the block editor is the standard experience, so for new content we generally recommend using regular blocks unless you specifically need the Classic block.
When the Classic Block Appears
The Classic block is typically used in the following situations:
Legacy or imported content — Pages or posts created prior to the introduction of the block editor may display as a single large editing area rather than separate blocks. This is the Classic Block preserving that original content.
Custom TinyMCE buttons — If your site has been configured with custom TinyMCE buttons, these will only be accessible within a Classic Block.
Available Functionality
Toolbar controls — The block includes standard TinyMCE formatting tools, such as bold, italic, links, and list options.
Block management options — Content within a Classic Block can be converted into individual blocks (e.g., separate paragraphs, images), copied, duplicated, repositioned, or edited directly via HTML.
Limitation
Unlike standard Gutenberg blocks, the Classic Block does not offer additional configuration options in the editor Settings sidebar. All available controls are contained within its toolbar.
How to add a Classic block
Click the Block Inserter (+) and search for Classic
Or type /classic in a new paragraph and press Enter
Once added, you can edit content just like in the old Classic Editor.
Takeaways
The Classic block is not typically used in Frame, as the block editor is the standard experience.
You add this block when using old or imported wordpress posts.
The Classic block has it's own toolbar and you are not able to adjust that block with the Settings sidebar in editor.
